Sacred/ Ground/ Underground

Context
This DMAV project is an act of love towards the varied world of underground cultures which was born as a site specific project for Paratissima, in the space of the former Artiglierie in Turin and curated by Olga Gambari.

Intervention
This new Neon Story expresses our great attachment to underground cultures, freed from the conditioning of a System, which have always been visceral and free expressions, far from a mass-induced and induced taste and precisely for this reason infinitely authentic. The neon installation, which thrives on alternating light, pulsates like a mantra in the evocative space of the former Artiglierie of Turin, evoking the libertarian and somehow sacred nature of underground cultures.

Side notes
The DMAV collective has among its underground sources of inspiration precisely the relationship with that extraordinary tribal and social impulse that characterized the 80s and 90s of the twentieth century. Let’s think for example of the experience of American Straight Edge and the project led by the artists of Dischord records, starting from the experience of Fugazi. But there are many leads, and they cross different life trajectories. From the great experience of Italian hardcore punk, to dark/gothic cultures, to metal, to political hip hop.

Terraforma

Context
Terraforma is the project with which DMAV celebrates its first ten years of activity in 2020. Comparing ourselves with Olga Gambari, a curator who has followed many of the collective’s projects, we imagine the exhibition to tell this time period at the Moitre Gallery in Turin. The Terraforma volume also takes shape from this dialogue, which tells through words and images our journey, our roots, our visions and our continuous trespassing.

Intervention
The Terraforma project consists of an installation of the Moitre Gallery with photographic works and visual documentation of the collective’s public art projects and performances. In the innermost room, the video installation Caratteri Mobili, a video art work presented at various international festivals. Online, all this is told through Radio Terraforma.

Side notes
In full lockdown, we are faced with the challenge of imagining the Terraforma project, of giving it a material identity in the face of various distancing constraints. From the complexities of this situation was born the idea of Radio Terraforma, a web radio platform that presents its first ten episodes, with dialogues and exchanges with old and new friends of the collective.
